I've been doing some research about detox diet plans which utilize only organic raw foods. Usually a detox plan will bring to mind colon cleansers, strong herbs, pills, and dietary aides that are outside of the ordinary daily diet. But a detox is a natural process; the body does it every day as it can, if we give it the materials it needs. Raw foods can help nourish and cleanse because they have not been altered in any way by cooking or heat. Certain raw foods, especially fibrous vegetables like cauliflower and broccoli, are great at scraping sticky waste from the intestinal walls. Same for whole grains like millet and brown rice, to name a few. I will add some pages to the website when I complete my research. More to come later!

Ready for another cleanse
The 21-day cleanse (which I did already 4 months ago) was wonderful. It was much easier than I expected. I never got hungry, never craved anything, and actually felt like I could have kept going, unlike other cleanses where I would be ravenous and hallucinating food by the last day.
It was great to wear my "skinny jeans" again too, and feel comfortable in a pair of shorts in the hot summer weather.
I wish Standard Process didn't recommend this cleanse only once a year, because I would love to do it again this winter. Of the 13 pounds that came off, 5 crept back. My bad. But I don't eat just fruits and vegetables so I figured the entire weight loss was not going to be permament. And it was a fringe benefit, not the main reason for the cleanse. A good cleanse needs to be part of a maintenance regimen. So I am in search of a winter cleanse now; the 10-night cleanse in the Celtic Sea Salt catalog looked interesting. And it would be nice to shed those 5 pounds that crept back too.

Day 19 of My 21-Day Detox Cleanse
WOW! I hadn't realized how much time had passed since my last posting. And I had wanted to post every day while I was on this program! If it's any consolation, I didn't journal every day either, oh well. Probably because I've had so much energy and felt so well that I got involved in many other things.
This 21-day cleanse program is wonderful. I have stayed true to it in spite of going out to dinners and luncheons and the rewards have been tremendous. I've lost about 11 nasty pounds that will make slipping into my bathing suit a lot easier. I feel very mentally clear and focused, I sleep like a log and DON'T wake up (till the cat starts bugging me around 5 am, but that's just a fact of life when you have a well-fed cat).
However, at Day 17 I began to feel a little tired and drained. After all, the only protein I've had is in the smoothie drink that I have twice a day. And I am getting a little burned out on having the same fruits and veggies every day. There is some variety in the fruits and veggies but frankly, it's getting a little boring after 19 days! That being said, I'm really beginning to think about how I will eat post-cleanse. It would be insane to undo all my disciplined work! In that sense, the cleanse will end, but the food program I want to have to stay healthy will just be beginning on Day 21. Later!

Day 12 of My 21-Day Cleanse
Hard to believe that I haven't posted for over a week now. I am still remaining faithful to my 21-day cleanse, have had many temptations, but I'm staying strong. I've actually dined out with friends and managed to have only vegetables that were on the list. The desire to fit into my "skinny" jeans has superseded the desire for cheesecake, or pizza, or even a luscious platter of chicken enchiladas that my friend cooked for dinner yesterday evening! (Don't feel too sorry for me; I took some home and froze them for a post-cleanse reward!)
The cleanse is still easy: I don't feel wasted, or drained, or woozy, or shaky. In fact my energy levels are just as high if not higher than usual. It's all very, very good.
Let's not forget the best part of all - so far I've lost 8 pounds! Can't wait to see how I look and feel when it's over on June 17th. I'll keep you posted.

Detox Program Day 5 - amazing!
It's nearing the end of Day 5 of my 21-day detox program. I don't usually use all caps because it seems exaggerated, but I just have to say I DON'T BELIEVE HOW EASY THIS DETOX DIET IS!
I have yet to get a craving, feel hungry or start fantasizing about a nice thick slice of pizza (hallucinating is a better word, in viedw of prior detoxes where I could just about touch and taste the forbidden foods I was dreaming about).
More amazingly, I AM NEVER HUNGRY. I have a protein shake in the morning, which contains 2 spoonfuls of a complete protein and nutrient powder, pure water, a cupful of banana and strawberries, and a tablespoon of flax oil. I have not had any solid food before 2 PM every day this week, and that is because a) I am not hungry, and b) I am not thinking about food at all!
Over the first 5 days I have eaten a fraction of what I normally eat, and it has all been wholesome, nutritious and either steamed or raw. I did have some "detox" symptoms yesterday and today, of traveling back aches and some soreness in my lower back (a gall bladder reflex, meaning that my liver is getting the message to detox!) I could have also strained by back the other day by packing and lifting detox pads, but there's no way to be sure if this is simply "detox" discomfort or a real back strain.
Anyway, Day 5 is over and I'm feeling fabulous! More to come ...

My 3-Week Detox Program, Day 2
Well I made it through the second day, but I won't write much as I have what they call a "rebound headache," a dull headache on and off throughout the day that is telling me that my liver is getting the message to start detoxing! It's amazing how I haven't gotten hungry yet; the protein shake in the morning with the supplements kept me satisfied until I had lunch around 3 PM today; it was the day's first solid food. Beets (cooked), some shredded cabbage, and tomatoes.
As headachey as I feel, my energy level is fairly good. It was an absolutely gorgeous day today, so I took three nice walks. Time to fill some orders, and then for my evening protein shake. Till tomorrow!

My 3-Week Detox Program
Today is Monday, May 28th, the first day of my three-week detox program. For the next 21 days I'll be consuning only protein shakes, cleansing supplements, certain types of fruits and vegetables, and lots and lots of pure water. I'm in the fifth hour of the first day of the cleanse and so far, I feel great (ha, ha, just wait).
I'm also going to wear detox foot pads every night because that will really help. Usually I wear them only a few times a month, and I haven't worn them daily for some time, but they will make an excellent addition to this cleansing program.
My goals for this cleanse are:
-clean out physical, emotional, and mental garbage
-lose some weight in time for bathing suit season :-)
-clean out my office, my dressers, my closets, and my house in general!
-feel stronger, lighter and more clear
I'm also keeping a journal to help the mental detox juices flowing. I find that writing out all my "stuff" really helps me see things in a different way and actually come to some resolution about problems and issues that I'm dealing with.
I'll add to this blog whenever I have something useful or informative to say about the cleanse. I haven't done this one before, and I've definitely never done a cleanse for three whole weeks. It should be interesting and I expect it will be very rewarding as well. Please feel free to comment. Keep ya posted!

Detox Blog
To purge, or not to purge? I've always used purgatives (translation: herbs and supplements to flush out the colon) prior to doing any kind of cleansing regimen, like a liver cleanse. I've always read and been told that that was the thing to do prior to starting a body cleanse.
But recently I spoke with a nutritionist, a guy I trust, who really knows his stuff, and he frowns on the use of purgatives because they drain the body and can also cause dehydration if you don't drink tons of water when purging.
I'm getting ready to do a spring cleanse so I had to really think this one over. I learned that the typical cleanse that I do, a five-day regimen, utilizes purgatives because it's the only way to get any half decent cleansing done in such a short period of time. I guess it's a matter of personal preference: if you want to do a quick cleanse, you'll need some purgatives to get your system in gear. The cleanse recommended by the nutritionist is a very thorough one which takes three weeks, but uses no purgatives. I decided to try this one next month. It's a much longer time period, but the effects will certainly be more profound and long-lasting.
I'll keep you posted!
