I made it to Day 7

I am thrilled to have completed one third of my 21-day detox cleanse! Last week was rougher than usual. I had a headache for three days, not the usual one day. And I felt really drained, too drained to even leave the house. No loss there, as the NJ weather this past weekend hit into the mid-90s! For a time I wondered if I'd make it through this cleanse, but the thought of having to reschedule it was just too hard. Today though, I feel great. No more headaches or fatigue and my body is starting to feel lighter and tighter already. I'm even ready for my 2 pm dental appointment. Now that is saying something!

I discovered that I can use certain condiments on this cleanse that I wasn't aware of before. Here is a recipe for a delicious salad dressing, and it's healthy too:

to 1/2 cup of pure virgin olive oil add 1/8 teaspoon Celtic Sea Salt, a sprinkle of oregano, a dash of cracked pepper, and 3 tablespoons of organic apple cider vinegar. I add about 2 tablespoons of this dressing to my salads. Then I also dress up the salads with a generous sprinkle of flax seeds - need that Omega-3! Having tasty salads on the cleanse makes it so much easier to do.

I'm also wearing my detox foot pads every night, to detox from as many levels as I possibly can. Next up: cleaning out the house ... not my favorite task ... but when you detox, it's such a great time to cleanse on every level.

If you want to know more about my cleanse, just drop me a note from the Contact link on my site: www.essencepalace.com

I'll keep you posted!

Day 3 and the headache is finally over ...

I began my annual 21-day Purification Program cleanse on June 3rd. I felt it was a perfect time, because it was also the day of the New Moon in Gemini and it's always good to start something on a new moon. There were other favorable factors too: I don't have a super busy social schedule coming up, and I can afford to crash for the first few days of the cleanse if I feel like I have to.

And, crash I did! I wasn't long into Day One when my body got the detox message and responded with a headache, which actually lasted until this morning, Day 3. I always go through this whenever I do a cleanse, whether it is a short one or a long one. It is a natural response, albeit an unpleasant one. The headache was not that bad, but it came and went in pulsing waves. With the pulse of each wave I could hear my body yelling "Take THAT for the double margarita Saturday night! Take THAT for having ice cream pie on Sunday! Take THAT for eating too many packaged foods!" I had fun with those imaginings for a little while, and then thanked my body for staying strong and healthy in spite of my occasional dietary mishaps.

Aside from that initial headache that I always get, I experience feelings of fatigue and lethargy too, especially in the beginning. It's raining today, a perfect time to veg out and catch up on some reading. I've been self-educating a lot about detox lately and have come across a really excellent e-book called The Complete Natural Detox. It explains so much about the body's functions, the need for detoxing, and how to do it safely and effectively.

When I bought The Complete Body Detox I thought I'd be getting an e-book with maybe 30-40 pages, but this has 96 pages and it is very thorough. There is a lot of specific information about detox foods, detox diets, and how to detox your body safely and effectively. So I recommend it to all my readers. Check out The Complete Body Detox. If you are thinking of doing a detox diet, this is your best reference.

I'll keep on posting about my own 21-day cleanse. Feel free to post your comments.

The friction sitz bath

I just read a really excellent e-book about natural body detox using baths. That is a subject near and dear to my heart because I know of so many people who have been helped with chronic conditions just by doing detox baths. The book is called Detox Bath and it outlines the friction sitz bath developed by natural healer Louis Kuhne.

When I was in massage school I learned about the sitz bath. The sitz bath was highly recommended by medium and trance healer Edgar Cayce so I had known about it for some time even before then. The sitz bath is simple: you sit in a small tub or bidet with cold water surrounding your pelvic area. The rest of your body does not have to be in a tub, just the pelvic area. The water runs continuously over your pelvis. It needs to be cold, which is uncomfortable at first but cold water will achieve the desired therapeutic effect. And that's it for the sitz bath. It's very easy yet very effective at stimulating the circulation in the hips and pelvic area. That sound simplistic but the stimulation of circulation actually helps relieve constipation, IBS, cramps, and even pain in the lower limbs.

Louis Kuhne took this step further and added friction, or gentle rubbing with a washcloth, for the friction sitz bath. Thousands of his patients were greatly helped by this bath method and the method is still known today and used by holistic practitioners. The e-book explains this method thoroughly and offers a lot of other valuable detox information. I can't recommend it enough for all of you who are searching for safe, natural health alternatives. The Detox Bath Ebook is an excellent investment in your health. I wouldn't recommend it if I hadn't read it and found it extremely useful for my own health regimen!

Response re SP 21-Day Purification Program

Hi grackle, and thanks for posting to the Detox Blog.

I find that I don't get hungry on this cleanse so the food doesn't seem boring to me. But it helps to vary the way you prepare the protein smoothies. I will usually put bananas in my protein drink, but sometimes I change it to strawberries or other fruits, just for variety.

It sounds like you are doing the modified cleanse since you mentioned eggs. You can have lean fish and meats too. Try steaming or poaching the meats or preparing them in a way you don't normally eat them.

The list of allowed foods is pretty long, so you could also try veggies or fruits on that list that you don't normally eat. I am picking dandelions from my front yard and using them as a steamed vegetable; that is another thing I don't usually do that works to keep this diet interesting.

Last year I developed a real taste for steamed onions - that sounds silly but they really do taste delicious when steamed! I would never have known that otherwise. During this cleanse my sense of taste is so much improved that foods take on a different flavor and quality. I remember munching on raw carrots and noticing how sweet they tasted -- again, something that usually just passes me by when I eat "normally."

This is a very timely post, because I am starting my 21-day cleanse this Tuesday, June 3rd!! I just did my food shopping yesterday and am getting myself mentally prepared for 3 weeks of detox dieting. I'm looking forward to it, especially the weight loss, so I can start going to the beach in July!

Don't hesitate to post again with other questions about the program.

Best,

Sound Off by Barb

I just posted to the site blog about some recent negative writings I have encountered lately on the web about the detox pads. I have to say, these people are very creative in how they undermine this wonderful product. Problem is, they are also incredibly ignorant. I have read so much disinformation and misinformation that I feel like a spy caught by the KGB.

There is so much nonsense on the web these days about the detox pads being a scam, that they don't work, that their basic principles are groundless. All I can say is, thousands of people are helped by them, and that is a truth that can't be denied. I have been selling our detox pads to several chronically ill customers for years. These customers have stated that the pads have made an immense difference in their state of being and their health. How can it be then, that the pads don't work, if this is the case?

Besides, frequent visitors to my website know that there is hard evidence that the pads work. It is backed up by laboratory testing and that is why I buy them from my Japanese manufacturer -- even though I could get them much cheaper somewhere else. My manufacturer tests the pads religiously and conducts clinical trials as well. I have hard evidence of all this.

So, all I can say to those seeking to undermine the reputation of this marvelous product is:
1) I've done my homework - now go do yours. 2) Unlike many popular drugs "du jour," these wonderful detox pads are not a leading cause of death in this country. Better concern yourself about all the toxic drugs and chemicals on the marketplace that are, and let us detox pad vendors to sell our product to those who truly appreciate it, need it, and benefit from it!

My 21-Day Purification Program Cleanse

I've written a lot about how necessary it is to really plan a detox diet program before starting it. In fact I have been trying to plan my annual spring cleanse for the past few weeks, and I finally see daylight. A 21-day cleanse is a long time so the calendar bears careful scrutiny.

I wanted to start in May, and saw right away that Mother's Day was the 11th, so I knew I wouldn't start till after then because we are treating my Mom to a nice dinner and I don't want to miss out on it.

I am going away for a couple days at end of May, after Memorial Day, and I refuse to tote all the supplements, special foods, blender, and powdered drinks with me, so that time is out too! That plus a friend's birthday celebration rules out that week.

I did the 21-day cleanse a year ago, from end-May to June 20th and that worked out perfectly. It seems an open window now too. I especially love the idea that the cleanse would end just at the Summer Solstice, approx June 21st. That means that I can begin the summer with a lighter, thinner, healthier body, and wear the clothes to show it too. So it's official: I will do my 2008 Purification Program 21-day cleanse from May 30th to June 20th. I'll keep you posted!

Getting ready for my 21-day annual monster cleanse

Every year I go on a 21-day full body detox, which includes organic fruits, vegetables, protein powder, supplements, chiropractic, body work, journaling, a mental detox, and plenty plenty of water! I started this program a year ago (I blogged about it then as part of my journaling), and it was fabulous. I lost 12 pounds, cleansed out a lot of garbage on all levels, and felt wonderful both during and after.

So it's May 1st, I have all my powders and supplements ready, and my calendar in hand. It's crucial to plan such a long cleanse well ahead of time. I don't want to be bringing plastic containers of steamed veggies to any dinner parties or celebrations, so I have to choose a 21-day block of time which is relatively un-busy on my social calendar. That's not to say I haven't gone to dinners bringing my own detox foods with me. I just prefer to avoid that if at all possible!

I have to look ahead of Mother's Day as that will be a big dinner for my Mom and I don't want to pass it up. Also, doing a long cleanse works best in warm or hot weather. Here in NJ it's been fairly cool, so mid-May may be a better time temperature-wise.

The major preparation though, is mental. I like to picture myself on the cleanse feeling lighter, more energetic, clearer, healthier. I like to picture myself finishing the cleanse, fitting into my bathing suit, shorts, skinny jeans, and all my summer clothes.

I am also doing a super spring cleaning in my house, which is another level of "detox" that helps me get ready.

With all of these preparations I am feeling really excited that this year's 21-day body detox will be just as rewarding as the last one.

As always, I'll keep posting about my 21-day body cleanse.

Checking out the Master Cleanse Diet

I've been hearing about the Master Cleanse Diet, aka the "lemonade diet," so I bought an e-book to learn more about it. Very interesting! It is in fact a diet consisting mainly of a lemonade drink that is prepared with organic squeezed lemon juice and organic grade B pure maple syrup. The diet also includes cayenne pepper, psyllium husk, wheat grass juice, a laxative herbal tea, and extract of hoodia gordonii herb (optional, for those seeking an extra detox weight loss boost).

The e-book gave a very thorough description of the diet, what to expect from it, and how to prepare for it. There was honest discussion of the fact that newcomers to this diet may experience hunger cravings, headaches, some fatigue, and frequent runs to the bathroom (no pun intended). But in my experience, that's pretty much what everyone on a serious body cleanse faces, especially if the cleanse lasts for more than a few days. I do the Standard Process Purification Program for 21 days once each year, and the only thing I do NOT experience is the severe hunger. Every detox seems to exact its price to an extent, which is just our body's revenge on us for mistreating it in the first place.

What I like about the Master Cleanse Diet is that it is versatile. You can do three days, up to ten days (some stalwarts do up to 30 days which to me doesn't sound like a very good idea for most people). You can do it for three days just to start. Or you can substitute one meal every ay with the lemonade drink, and eat sensibly for the other two meals.

My overall impression is that the Master Cleanse Diet e-book is a very helpful read for anyone seeking to start a weight loss detox, or just a serious body cleanse. It is worthwhile reading for informative purposes, and it also provides all the info you need if you decide to try the cleanse for a few days. The e-book contains a lot more vital information about cleansing and health, and some disturbing but important info about drinking bottled water, so I give it a thumbs-up for my customers and website visitors.

Here's a link if you want to check it out: Master Cleanse Diet
